Program Overview
We accept applications for PhD projects in Seismology, Planetology, Geodynamics and Geomagnetism.
Program provides advanced theoretical knowledge of the physics of the Earth and planetary bodies and trains students in theoretical and numerical solutions of the forward and inverse problems. Our main research objectives are physics of the seismic source and earthquakes, propagation of seismic waves, deformation and thermal evolution of the interiors of the Earth and planetary bodies and icy moons in the Solar system, gravity and electromagnetic field of the Earth and planets. The graduate is able to carry out independent scientific research focused on the physical processes in the Earth, planets and satelites. He/she can pursue career in the research institutions focused on Earth and planetary evolution, but also in the industrial research focused on the issue of continuum mechanics.
Applications collected through this website will be used to match candidates with PhD advisors and to determine project funding. All selected candidates will have to pass through the regular admission procedure of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics. All candidates admitted for PhD will be students of Faculty of Mathematics and Physics at Charles University.
PhD projects will be carried out at one of the collaborating institutions in Prague, Czechia:
- Charles University, Faculty of Mathematics and Physics (MFF CUNI): Department of Geophysics
- Geophysical Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences (GI CAS)
- Institute of Rock Structure and Mechanics (IRSM CAS)
