The research infrastructure LINDAT/CLARIAH-CZ and its host institution – Institute of Formal and Applied Linguistics, Faculty of Mathematics and Physics at Charles University – offers part of its computing capacity for research projects which aim at fighting SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19, starting April 1, 2020.

Two Czech laboratories working in automatic speech and language processing have achieved significant international success. The results of the European program supporting the creation of artificial intelligence centers were announced in March, and the institutions involved in the HumanE-AI Net project also include the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University in Prague and the Faculty of Information Technology, BUT.

The Colloquium ‘Stages of Ethnic and Nationalist Violence: Perspectives of the Global “North” and “South”’, which took place on 1 November 2019 at the Institute of Formal and Applied Linguistics, Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic, succeeded in bringing together researchers and practitioners from various institutions and introducing cases of ethnic violence occurring in parts of the world that may usually escape the focus of public and scientific discourses dominating the transatlantic space.

Eight scientists – three of them from Charles University – received Neuron Awards at an official ceremony at the National Museum in Prague.

The European spacecraft has successfully passed last tests at the IABG test centre near Munich. Electronics from Charles University, Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, is also on-board. During oncoming weeks the spacecraft will be transported to Cape Canaveral in Florida, US, to be launched towards the Sun in February 2020.
