General Information for Doctoral Studies

Students can attend either four semesters (intermediate level codes NJAZ068 and NJAZ069) or two semesters (advanced students – code NJAZ092) of preparation prior to taking their examination (see the schedule of English for PGS). All courses are given once a week for 90 minutes.

Advanced students can also attend a special one semester course of Academic English focusing on presentation skills, and academic writing – code NJAZ093. This course is given only during the summer semester.

The English language examination (code DZK001) is compulsory; students must pass the English examination in order to be admitted to the defence of a doctoral thesis.

Students can sit for the examination (given during the examination periods) any time during their studies.

Textbooks for the general English course are Advanced Expert Coursebook, Third Edition (Jan Bell and Roger Gower, Pearson). Other materials will be handed out during the course.

The English examination for doctoral students can be replaced completely by the certificate UNIcert® III, English for Mathematicians.
