ERASMUS+ Incoming students

Nomination and Application

If you are interested in joining the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics within the
framework of an Erasmus+ exchange program, you have to make yourself familiar
with the Charles University website Erasmus+ , namely with the item Before Arrival
Checklist.

The first step you should make is to consult your application with the Erasmus
office at your home University.

This way, you will ensure that there is an Agreement between your University and the
Charles University. Please note that your nomination can be submitted only by your
home university via the online platform.

The Charles University Infosheet with the information about the online nomination
process was sent to Erasmus coordinators.

The Erasmus+ coordinators of sending universities who do not obtained the CU
Infosheet are warmly welcome to request it at erasmus@ruk.cuni.cz

Nominations by e-mail are not accepted.

Any certificate proving at least B2 level of English OR the confirmation that you have
studied the English program at your university IS REQUIRED.

During the preparation phase students communicate with either The CU European
office ( erasmus.incoming@ruk.cuni.cz  ) or with the Erasmus+ Coordinator for
incoming students at Faculty of Mathematics and Physics
( erasmus-incoming@matfyz.cuni.cz)

The accommodation is arranged by the CU European office.

After you get access to Erasmus online APPLICATION, you will proceed with the online REGISTRATION based on the e-mail from European Office ( erasmus.incoming@ruk.cuni.cz ).

Documents to be delivered to Erasmus+ Coordinator at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics (please check the deadline!):

After you deliver all the required documents, the evaluation of your application will be done within the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics.

Once the evaluation is finished, we will send you the feedback, recommendations etc.

Courses

Your choice of courses and the Learning Agreement need to be validated and signed by your home Erasmus + coordinator at first.

What courses are offered at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics?

Choose the section of study:

When you click on each branch/section, you will see the Degree Plan. Each degree plan has a list of obligatory courses which are guaranteed to be taught in English.

Erasmus+ students can also register for courses taught at other faculties of Charles University in Prague, but are required to follow the rule that at least 51 % of courses in Learning Agreement must be taught at Faculty of Mathematics and Physics.

Enrolment of Bachelor students in master courses

Students who are studying the Bachelor program at their home university can enroll in master courses at MATFYZ. We cannot guarantee or promise you in advance the approval of the master courses. Once the Learning Agreement is signed by the home university and delivered to Erasmus+ Coordinator, it is sent for evaluation together with the transcript of records and the degree plan. The professors would check your study results and send the feedback (recommendation or rejection) afterwards. Basically, it depends on student´s knowledge and ability to follow the master courses.

Czech Language courses

An Erasmus+ student at Charles University has two main options:

  1. To apply for Czech language courses at Faculty of Mathematics and Physics. These courses are offered at different levels and can be included into your LA as regular subjects.

  2. To take the Intensive Czech language course for beginners (no previous Czech language knowledge required). This course starts before the beginning of each semester (early September for the winter semester/mid-January for the summer semester), and it is being held for 3 weeks on everyday basis. More information about this course is sent to incoming students approximately 2 months before the start of the course by the CU European office.

Student Information System (SIS)

In SIS you can search for different courses by name, faculty or teaching language. You can also sort the bachelor and master courses. While searching courses, which you want to take, we strongly recommend you to pay attention especially to the language of instruction, semester and the town, where the course is held.

Other courses in the section Elective courses can be also taught in English. If ENGLISH is mentioned there as a language of teaching.

Please remember:

Only the obligatory courses and courses with the language of instruction “English”, or „English, Czech" are guaranteed to be taught in English, the rest is subject to additional conditions and possibilities.

Following courses are NOT allowed for Erasmus+ students:

There are courses which are confirmed by the exam (zk for zkouška), the result then is either:

There are also courses which are evaluated with a course credit (z for zápočet) only. It means there is no grade and the result is either "pass - započteno in Czech" or "fail - nezapočteno". The conditions for obtaining the course credit differ according to the nature of the course, for example involving the completion of a test, programming an application or writing a survey and are specified by the teacher at the beginning of the semester.

The enrolment to courses is possible AFTER you register to our faculty.

Changes of Learning Agreement

Adding or deleting courses is possible during the first month of your stay via the Changes form, which is part of your application. The Changes form needs to be signed by your home coordinator at first and then send to MATFYZ coordinator erasmus-incoming@matfyz.cuni.cz for approval.

Registration Day

your attendance is mandatory

During your Erasmus+ stay

Your study stay starts on the day of your registration. Once you register at MATFYZ,
you will be able to enroll to the selected courses.

Course enrolment is done after the registration via Student Information System (SIS)
Note on terminology: we distinguish between enrolment in a course and enrolment in the schedule.

Enrolment in a course in each study section is the information filed electronically in SIS that shows you intend to pass the course in this study section, which allows you to take the course being taught and to sit the exam.

Enrolment in the schedule is the information about when and where the course you are taking will be taught.

Changes of your Learning Agreement can be done during the first month of your stay via the Changes form, which is part of your application. The Changes form needs to be signed by home coordinator at first and then send to erasmus-incoming@matfyz.cuni.cz

In case of any issues or questions, feel free to contact Mrs. Jarmila Vágnerová.
