Formal requirements for final (i.e. bachelor's, master's, rigorous, doctoral) theses

Art. 1
Formal requirements for final theses

On the basis of Art. 16 and Art. 24 Rules of Study at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of Charles University, Art. 4 and Art. 7 of the Rigorosum Examination Code of Charles University and in accordance with Dean's directive No. 26/2023, Rules for the registration, submission and publication of final theses, I prescribe the following form of final theses:

The paper version of the final thesis is printed on white A4 paper. The thesis is bound, the doctoral thesis must be bound in a fixed binding, its must state the full name of the university and faculty, the type of the final thesis (doctoral thesis), the author's name and surname and the year of submission, optionally also the title of the final thesis, all in the language of the thesis.

Both the paper and the electronic version of the thesis must contain, in the prescribed form, the following particulars, in the following order:

a) Title sheet
The title sheet is drafted in Czech (for theses in Czech and Slovak) or English (for theses in English). It must state in the following order the faculty logo, the type of the final thesis (bachelor's thesis, etc.), the author's name and surname, the title of the final thesis, the name of the department or institute where the thesis was commissioned, the supervisor of the thesis (with titles), the study programme, the seat of the faculty (i.e. Prague in the appropriate language), the year of submission.

b) Author's statement
On a separate sheet – the following statement on the elaboration of the thesis in Czech (for theses in Czech and Slovak) or English (for other languages):

I declare that I carried out this bachelor (master, doctoral) thesis on my own, and only with the cited sources, literature and other professional sources. I understand that my work relates to the rights and obligations under the Act No. 121/2000 Coll., the Copyright Act, as amended, in the fact that the Charles University has the right to conclude a license agreement on the use of this work as a school work pursuant to Section 60 subsection 1 of the Copyright Act.

The statement may be followed by a thank you note on a separate sheet.

c) Information sheet
It contains the following information in the language of the thesis and in English: the title of the thesis, the author, the name of the department or institute where the thesis was commissioned, the supervisor of the thesis (with titles) and its department, the abstract, the keywords.

d) The actual text of the final thesis
It also includes content, an inventory of bibliographic citations, or a list of abbreviations, tables, pictures, attachments, index. Pages in this section must be numbered.

Art. 2
Final provisions

1. This measure comes effective on the day of its approval by the dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics and takes effect on the day of its publication in the public section of the faculty website, but no earlier than 1. 1. 2024.
2. As of the effective date of this measure, the Dean's Directive No. 1/2015 and the Dean's Directive No. 7/2016 are repealed.
