Monochromatization and shaping of electron beams by light

Research of electron beam shaping bz optical field leads to two new prestigious publications.

The interaction between light and free electrons, which is the subject of research of the ERC grant solved by the group of Martin Kozák, brings various possibilities for manipulating with electron beams in electron microscopes. As part of this research, the group proposed two new applications of electron-photon interaction, namely the monochromatization of electron beams by interactions with optical pulses with a time-varying frequency and the generation of electron vortex beams using shaped optical waves. These two applications were proposed and theoretically described in publications recently published in the journals Physical Review Letters and Physical Review Applied.
