Locally valid additions to the rules of operation in the computer network at Karlov

MAIL

Due to the existence of the M365 service and the planned faculty-wide transition of local e-mail services to this platform, we do not provide personal e-mail boxes on the Karlov domain. We still operate technical mailboxes and conference sheets until they are migrated to a suitable solution in M365.

In addition to the general rules, the following principles also apply to receiving and sending e-mail in the Karlov domain:

  • You can receive mail using the SMTP protocol only on terminal devices that have a record in DNS MX (so-called mail terminal device, MTD).
  • The MX record can be assigned by the domain administrator based on the request of the KZ administrator and if the following conditions are met:
    • MTD is permanently in operation (at least 23 hours a day)
    • the MTD administrator responds (max. within 1 week) to mail sent to the address
      postmaster@DNS_name_MTD
    • the MTD administrator is logged in to netadm-l@karlov.mff.cuni.cz (see addresses)
    • the MTD administrator maintains a list of "his" users through AUWI
    • MTD has a limit set for the size of incoming and outgoing mail equal to 25 MB (26214400 bytes)
  • Mail can be sent from the end device provided that:
    • uses relay mail.karlov.mff.cuni.cz for delivery of "non-local" (i.e. directed outside MTD) mail (e.g. using the DS macro in sendmail.cf), using one of the protocols:
      • SMTP on port 25
      • SMTP + STARTTLS on port 25
      • SMTPS (SMTP over SSL) on port 465
    • especially the return address is correct in outgoing mail (ie it leads to an existing account/alias on MTD)
  • The MX record (and therefore the MTD status) may be withdrawn for failure to meet the above conditions.

The reception of "non-local" mail to devices other than PKZ is currently blocked. Sending mail in ways other than those defined here may be blocked (without further warning) if the situation requires it.

CONNECTING DOCKING STATIONS

With reference to Directive no. 4/2018, Article 4, the same rules as for connecting a computer directly to a socket apply to docking stations enabling the connection of laptops (separate, built-in monitors, etc.). The user is obliged to ensure that only his laptop is connected to the given docking device, and in the case of the dean's office, a laptop that is managed by PSíK. In the event that another device is connected to the docking station, this device is considered to be the registered user's device for the purposes of this directive, and thus this user is responsible for any damage that may occur.
