Dive into the Heart of Particle Physics at the ICHEP 2024 Conference in Prague
Get ready for the particle physics event of the year! From July 18–24, the global scientific community will gather at the Prague Congress Centre for ICHEP 2024, the International Conference on High Energy Physics. This renowned conference, famous for groundbreaking announcements like the Higgs boson discovery in 2012, promises to unveil the latest findings from the depths of the microcosm.
Over 1,300 scientists will come together to discuss cutting-edge experiments, from neutrino properties to the search for dark matter and hypothetical particles, driving forward our understanding of the universe. These new results of precise measurements of the properties of known particles, particularly any signals that disagree with the Standard Model, which is the current theory of the microcosm, could significantly steer future research directions and bring us closer to unravelling mysteries like the matter-antimatter asymmetry in the cosmos.
“Czech particle physicists partake in cutting-edge fundamental research in international laboratories around the world. Hosting such a prestigious event is both a challenge and an opportunity for the Czech scientific community to showcase our contributions and foster new international collaborations,” says Prof. Zdeněk Doležal, national organizer and vice-dean for research and international affairs at Charles University’s Faculty of Mathematics and Physics.
The presence of top global experts will also bring particle physics into the public eye. This year’s conference among others includes:
- Future of Particle Physics Panel: Join leading figures like Fabiola Gianotti (CERN), Lia Merminga (Fermilab), Yifang Wang (IHEP, China), and Shoji Asai (KEK, Japan) as they discuss the future of accelerator physics, alongside Czech political and scientific representatives.
- Fabiola Gianotti’s Lecture at Colours of Ostrava: Engage with CERN's Director-General at this popular music festival, celebrating CERN’s 70th anniversary with public lectures and experimental shows at The Big Bang Stage.
- Particles and Arnošt Lustig Exhibition: Opening on July 17 at the Prague Congress Centre, this exhibition blends cutting-edge science with ethical and artistic perspectives, featuring creative works by students as part of the BeInspired@ICHEP2024 project.
About ICHEP:
The International Conference on High Energy Physics is a biannual event organized by the IUPAP Commission, serving as a major forum for presenting significant results in particle physics. For over 70 years, ICHEP has brought together physicists from around the world to share advances in particle physics, astrophysics, cosmology, and particle accelerator science.
National organization for ICHEP 2024 involves key Czech research institutions, including Charles University, Czech Technical University in Prague, the Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences, and more. The organizing committee is chaired by Prof. Zdeněk Doležal and Prof. Tomáš Davídek from the Institute of Particle and Nuclear Physics, Charles University.
